Elham Anglicans
The 13th. Century Anglican Church of St. Mary the Virgin Elham exists to share with others the responsibility of meeting the spiritual and pastoral needs of the local community with worship, prayer, education, training, mission, outreach, fellowship and social events.

In addition to the regular Sunday worship there is a daily weekday morning prayer at 9.00 a.m.   On Fridays there is a 15 minute time of silent prayer at 7.30 a.m. for peace in our world.  See the Calendar for Sunday worship details and other events.

We share with the local Methodist Church the teaching of our faith to children in our weekly Sunday School.   Adult Study Groups also meet from time to time.  St. Mary's has initiated discussions in a local pub or village hall, open to all, on important issues such as the environment and health, money and the media.
Mission and outreach is an obligation for those who follow Christ.  Pastoral care, home visits, support of other organisations such as Christian Aid are all part of the responsibility we have to Church members and non-members alike both local and further afield and much of this is organised on an ecumenical basis.

Women Bishops?
The controversy in the Church of England about the ordination of women bishops continues.  The proposal is currently being considered by each Diocese before returning to General Synod.  To read about this issue please follow this link.

Our Fellowship with one another helps us to build up and feed our sense of community.  Church activity groups such as the choir, bellringers, servers, flower arrangers all give an opportunity for service to God and fellowship with one another.  Social and money-raising events are a regular feature of our Church life and help us maintain our beautiful building.  Many members are regular givers through our envelope and stewardship scheme.
